Rakovica, although it is a small village, has quite a bit of history. It was from here in 1871 that Croatian nationalists disavowed Habsburg rule and declared their independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was an ill-fated attempt, but the movement has been celebrated by Croatians ever since.
It is not advisable to attempt any uprisings in Rakovica anymore. Recreational opportunities, however, are ample here. The surrounding countryside is stunningly gorgeous, and tourists visiting nearby destinations like Plitvice and Rastoka are likely to find their way here at some point.
