Rastoka Waterfalls
Rastoka Waterfalls 35 km away
Also known as “Little Plitvice”, the natural features of Rastokahave been nearly as famous as their larger neighbor. The falls, caves, and underground rivers near and around Rastoka have been formed from very similar processes as Plitvice, where soft, easily eroded stone is carved over several thousand years into the formations we know and love today.
Rastoka has grown even rustic and magnificent with time. The old grain mills, once the wheels of local commerce, are now exclusively tourist destinations. And the tourists definitely come. You can still taste delicious bread baked with local grain milled in these very mills. These loaves are baked according to secret family recipes, and are famous throughout the area.
The people here long ago decided to live in unison with the beauty of their surroundings. It remains much the same today as it was back then. In other places around the world, such quaint rusticity is only a wisp of nostalgia, but it is everyday life in Rastoka. Numerous visitors mistakenly believe that it is some kind of theme park.
The babbling streams, springs, and brooks of Rastoka are abundant with dozens of fish species, most notably trout. Crabs and otters are also to be found in these waters. You’ll be able to sample the delicious local seafood, along with specialties like roast pork and lamb, at any one of a number of highly regarded restaurants in town.
